KyleBitsBits and Pieces of my XBox 360 October 30 Guitar Hero 3I also just picked up GH3. I've worked my way through Easy (hey, I want the achievements!) and I'm about to start Medium. The difficulty is a little higher this time around. I'm told the end of Medium is harder than some of the Hard songs from GH2. Now I just need to find someone around here to tackle co-op with me... Orange BoxWell, I got the Orange Box a while back (release day, whenever that was), and played the shit out of Portal. What a great game. It's short, and not worth $60 on its own, but a definite "must play" game. I still haven't fired up Team Fortress 2, but I'm looking forward to doing that. I love the first one back in the day. Half-Life 2 hasn't grabbed me. I don't know what it is that interests me in a FPS (like Doom or Quake), but HL2 doesn't have it and Halo didn't have it. I did it again...... I neglected the blog for a long time. If it's any consolation, I've ignored the personal blog (www.kylebits.com) too.
First, the GH2 update ... I've got 5 stars on all songs on easy and medium, and several of the unlockable and downloadable songs. I'm pretty much sticking to playing the downloadable/unlockables right now, because Hard is, well, HARD! I've played all the songs from the first set, but the second set is kicking my ass.
BioShock ... what a fun and gorgeous game. I played through twice. You need to make a sort of good vs evil decision during the game, and the decision dictates the ending (and not much else that I can tell), so I played it both ways. The second playthrough, my goal was to collect all achievements and see the alternate ending, so I put it on "easy" and did a LOT of exploring and research that I hadn't done the previous time. I got all the achievements except the one that requires you to complete the game on the hardest setting. I just don't have the patience, and it's only 40 points.
Crackdown ... since I'm now waiting for new stuff to come out that I'm interested in (see below), I decided to return to Crackdown to snag some more achievements and check out some of the new stuff that came with the Marketplace DLC. I've managed to snag some fun achievements lately (Body Armor is my favorite!) and I wish Jeff had more time to play co-op, dammit.
Waiting for... GH3, Rock Band, Half-Life Orange Box, GTA IV, possibly Mass Effect. I have no real interest in Halo 3. I'll borrow it from Jeff when he's done, but I won't buy it, and I'm not interested in online multiplayer. I'll check out single-player to see if it grabs me, but the first 2 did not. I'm one of the rare individuals that liked Quake 4 a lot more than Halo. May 04 Guitar Hero 2I can't believe I've been silent on this for so long. Partly, it's because I'm distracted by the new girlfriend, but partly it's because I've been distracted by Guitar Hero 2. This game ROCKS (no pun intended). There are several tweaks I'd like to see with respect to checking the leader board (for instance, I don't care how I compare to the world, I just want to know I'm kicking my friends' butts), but other than that, this game is perfect. It's great fun solo in career mode, and it's a fantastic party game. Great work Harmonix. Now I can't wait for ROCK BAND. March 04 CrackdownAs expected from playing the demo, Crackdown, as a single player game, has turned out to be fun and addictive. I have total "orb hunting ADD" while I play, where I'll risk death in the middle of a mission to go get an orb if I spot it in the middle of a mission. That's the good part. The bad part is I'm already done. It's a VERY short game. There are no side missions, only plot missions. There are 21 bosses to kill. There are races to do, orbs to collect, and stunt markers to find ... but that still doesn't make for a very long game.
On to the great part: Multiplayer ROCKS. Jeff and I have been playing over Xbox Live and it has made for some fantastic comedic moments. The way it works, one player gets to jump into the other's city in its current "boss" state. In other words, whatever bosses are left in Jeff's city when I join are still there, even if I've killed them in my city. Everything else from my city gets brought with me: my skill level, the weapons I have available, the orbs I've discovered, the ammo supply points I've unlocked. Jeff doesn't see my supply points, and we don't fight over orbs. It's pure genius. They designed multiplayer very well.
I tried to think of how to explain the great comedic moments here, but I can't. They were pretty much "you had to be there" moments. Suffice to say, we've been at the falling down laughing point more than a few times. Usually it's because of the manner in which one of us died, of course.
At this point I've got 565/900 points on it, and for the first time playing any game, I don't see any reason I can't get all of them. February 05 Guitar Hero 2 & CrackdownThe other day, I played GH2 on a friend's PS2. I had seen the game in Fry's many time, and it didn't really appeal to me. After the other day, though, I have to have it. What a fun game! I assume the large quantity of beer helped with the enjoyment, but it was not only fun to play, but also watch. Jeff and I were playing on Easy and still struggling (including me getting booed off the stage 68% into Freebird), while Chris played on Medium and did a damn respectable job. He tried one song on Hard and got booed off right away. (It's Chris' game, so he's had a lot more practice.) I'm definitely going to pick this up in April when it comes out.
Since April is a long way off, the next game I'll probably pick up is Crackdown. I downloaded the demo from the XBL Marketplace, and it was engaging enough that I'll give it a go. It's a GTA-style game, with lots of added goodies. GTA (starting with GTA3) pretty much defined the genre, now other developers are adding and refining. Crackdown looks to be an excellent refinement, with superhero-like twists.
I still have many games in my library I haven't completed yet. Not sure I ever will. Here's the list, with the ones I'd most like to complete listed first: Burnout Revenge, Blitz the League, Gears of War, Need for Speed, Far Cry, King Kong (has never been opened -- got it as part of the original bundle and not that impressed with what I've seen.) I'm sure it's surprising to see Blitz ahead of GoW, but the thing is Gears, for all its beautiful graphics, didn't grab me like I expected. The same thing happened with Halo 1 & 2. (Now Halo fanboys will hate me. Oh well.) |
